Couplers are made by simultaneously heating and drawing fibers in close contact.
This process tapers the fibers and establishes an optical couple between them
to split or combine different signals. The splitting ratios between 1:99% and
50:50% are available. Fiberlink manufactures these fused bi-conical taper
couplers with a highly automated process to achieve consistent quality and
